Accommodation

In Veliko Tarnovo the visitor is spoilt for choice with lovely places to stay –hotels, villas and guest houses, many of them located in Veliko Tarnovo most picturesque spots. The prices for hotel accommodation in a double room with breakfast for two vary from 25 € to 70 €.

There are several four star hotels such as the Yantra hotel, it is located in the beautiful old part in town. The accommodation starts from 60 €. Lovely rooms, nice restaurant and cozy lobby bar. It has an indoor pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, Gym and a Spa & Beauty centre which would not be out of place in St Moritz.

An alternative is the lovely Sylvester hotel, in the unique atmosphere of the old Tarnovgrad and only 100 meters away from the Architectural and Museum Reserve Tsarevetz. It is comfortably furnished, with balconies facing the green Sveta Gora Hill and the Mediaeval Fortress Tsarevetz. The price of accommodation here is 40 € a night for a double with bed and breakfast.

Generally the prices of three / four starred hotels are between 30 € to 50 € a night for B&B, the price includes all the appliances to make your stay complete, most of the hotels and cafes have free guest Wi Fi.

There is a huge choice of good accommodation encompassing, hotels, guesthouses, hostels and villas. Prices for villas are dependent on the number of guests and duration of stay but in general a villa with a pool will cost you less than halve of the equivalent sized and appointed house in Spain or France.

Veliko Tarnovo also has a few nice and very artistic basic but very clean hostel, which offer BB too. Price start from 10 €


Food and Drink in Veliko Tarnovo

There is a restaurant to suit all tastes in Veliko Turnovo, they are all very well decorated and have lovely atmosphere. Some have authentic Bulgarian traditional style, others have modern look. They offer wide variety of tasty meals, in town service is excellent. In terms of cost a romantic meal for two in a good restaurants would cost 40 BGN to 70 BGN including wine and drinks (20 € to 35 €) and a nice lunch for two could cost from15 levs- 7.5 €.

Bar Prices. Veliko Tarnovo has many good bars, clubs and cafes all with great atmosphere and lovely staff. The prices are also very good. A bottle or a draft beer costs 2 BGN- (1 Euro), the price of a big shot of quality vodka (0.100 ml) is around 3 BGN, (1.5 €), a big shot of branded spirit is (0.100 ml) such as Chivas Regal or Havana Club 7 is 8 BGN (4 Euro). For a bottle of very good wine price is 15 BGN - 7.5 € .

Bulgaria has some very good wines. The price of a bottle of  good Bulgarian wine in  shops starts from 7 BGN. And the price of a litre bottle of spirit starts from 8 BGN.


Shopping

You can buy loads of small arts and crafts souvenirs, pottery, carvings, paintings, silver jewelry, antiques, prices starts only from 10 BGN-5 €.

Routine household items and food also very affordable and the area is well served with hyper markets.

Bulgaria has a large rose based cosmetic industry; the Bulgarian rose products offer great quality at incredible value. The products are all made with the world famous Bulgarian rose oil. Prices start from 5 BGN.

Touring and activities – There are many things that could be seen and done in the area of Veliko Tarnovo.

Day tickets for the Mediaeval Fortress Tsarevetz is 6 BGN, the Historical museum is 4 BGN.

A day trip in the area of Veliko Tarnovo could costs 30 BGN-15 € and  a day adventure outdoor activities like rock climbing , abseiling down waterfall with the transport and all gear included will cost 50 levs-25 €.

Mountain bikes cost 15 BGN per day to hire.

Price of a rent-a-car starts from 40 BGN- 20 € per day.

Taxi are amazingly cheap, from one side of the town to the other side is not more than  6 BGN- 3 €.

To visit the modern and comfortable cinema in the Central Mall Veliko Tarnovo is 10 BGN- 5 € per person, films are in English with Bulgarian subtitles.
